Don’t get me wrong; I think it’s great that she so generously shared her favorite things with her audience. It’s just that one of my favorite things is properly capitalized words. It would have been great if she would have done both: given away her favorite things and practiced responsible capitalization.
Well, there’s a famous quote from one of Oprah’s favorite authors, Toni Morrison: “If there's a book that you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it.” So I guess I must heed her advice. If I want to experience a properly capitalized favorite things give-away, I’ll have to create it myself.
And here are a few of my favorite things :
1. A Johnny Depp calendar. He's my flavor of every month.
2. A box of Lemon Zest Luna bars. I usually opt for chocolate-flavored, but these lemon-flavored bars are so dang delicious.
3. Nag Champa incense. It just smells so good.
4. The best movie ever. No, I'm not taking crazy pills.
5. I never get sick of listening to PJ Harvey's amazing CD, Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea.

Capitalize responsibly? Looks like the grammar police should have cited her with a HWM (Hosting While Misspelling) infraction.
I am another Luna Bar lover and have hidden a new box away so no one else in my family can scavenge through it. I'm selfish like that.

Okay, so here's the flipside of under-capitalization: how do you feel about over-capitalization? When I'm making a point in writing (or trying to make a point) sometimes I spontaneously knight humble old nouns into Proper Nouns. I think in moderation it can be kind of funny, but it is rare that I indulge in moderation...

One of my favorite things is basil infused simple syrup. Throw some gin and a squeeze of lime on top of it and allow bliss to set in.
I'm not a huge capitalizer. If I'm on facebook or writing a social email, I'll drop the caps.
But I didn't get it from Oprah. I've never watched her show.
One of my favorite things is soda. I know it's lame, but it's true. It de-stresses me and helps me write. :)

I capitalize but it's hard to stay capitalized on FB, Twitter and iPhone. I think I've got all five points and I like the way you capitalize on social networks for your book!
I am also a stickler about capitalization. I have a coworker who doesn't bother with them even in official emails and memos, and it drives me crazy.
One of my favorite things is the smell of lavender. I actually hate when they combine it with other stuff, so no lavender-vanilla soap or lavender-chamomile candles around here.
I think I'm at two points, and I would absolutely take an extra copy of Zoolander off of your hands.
I fully agree with number 4.
You teach English/Writing at the college level? Poor thing... I teach Finance/Economics at a small university in Mississippi... the students are upset when I count off points on their work for spelling errors, subject-verb issues, etc etc etc...
They tell me that I am not being fair when I do that... since it isn't a writing class. I remind them that someone further down the line is going to grade them even more harshly that I am... and that could cost them a promotion or even their position!

Back in my days of designing websites, I remember doing things like failing to capitalize to make something look better. It always bothered the grammarian in me, but I did it anyway!
You wouldn't like my business cards. I bought them from Colorful Images. The two-sided ones didn't have too many options if I wanted the number of characters I needed to put my website. So I chose the one that has my name in lower case.
