Having My Grammar Cake

As I mentioned in previous blog posts (in an unsuccessful attempt at guilting you into abandoning your holiday plans to jet on over to the East Coast to see me speak about my book), I went to Washington D.C. and New York to do some book readings. And, no, I didn’t tell the Mel Gibson joke.

The D.C. readings were held at the bookstores Books-A- Million and Busboys and Poets. The New York reading was at my aunt and uncle’s house. They invited a bunch of friends, and they really went above and beyond in making it a special event.

Check out the spread! It's hard to tell here, but those are grammar mugs!

This is the piece de resistance. Let them eat grammar cake!

This is a picture of the audience. I love how, like in the classroom, no one sits in the front row.

Here's an aerial view. Yes, they hired a helicopter.

This is my very supportive family. From left to right, we've got my dad, my sister, my cousin, me, my aunt and my uncle.

And third from the left is my other cousin. I didn't want to leave her out!

Thank you!

Wow- that was a terrific reading! It's terrific to have a supportive family. That spread is amazing. If only people knew how tasty grammar actually is...

Looks like you had an incredibly fun--and delicious!--time. :-) I'll expect my slice of cake FedEx, thank you.

Congratulations on the successful book reading :) I hope you were able to have some non-grammar related fun there, as well as the grammar related cake.

First time heard of grammar cake! Haha. You could start a bakery or cake shop and make yourself famous and some pile of money. Not sitting in the front - we did this too here in the class. Now, does it tell you something - this not wanting to be conspicuous? Congrats anyway!

hello pretty lady! Busboys and Poets, that would make for a cool name for an indie band. i'm tellin' ya, you are a bonafide literary rock star now, once you go cake, you never go back. i wish i had a supportive system around me, i'm but a lost-soul starving-artist actor/novelist who is...but enough about me...congrats, Jenny :)

Awesome! I heard a cool story about Busboys and Poets on NPR and would like to go there next time I am in DC. My family is from the area - Silver Spring MD

The cake, family, an audience is all nice and all, but what I'm fixating on is your hair. How does it come out so fabulous?

Next time, come up to Boston or at least New York. Or schedule your trips with me in mind. If you waited until my spring break, I could've seen you in DC.

One of these days I'll meet you and get my book signed.

How wonderful! Love the cake, and fun about the mugs, even if I can't see them.

How fun! I love that you do live readings. There's nothing better than hearing an author actually read what they wrote. My favorite monologists are David Sedaris, Spalding Gray and of course, my husband. He's small time but not for long. If you even decide to do a book tour in San Diego, I'll be there.

That cake looks great. What kind was it?

I would have abandoned my plans if only you had remembered to send a ticket. Maybe it got lost in the mail. I could have told my wife that the President needed some advice, but don't think she would buy it. She's a lot smarter than I look.

The holidays left me with very little blogging time but I am back. I wish I could have come to the reading you had here on the East Coast! I am really interested in checking out your book :)

Public readings! How very cool is that. And food to go with it. A real classy event.
